what is wrong with my pleco pics incl?

he seemed perfectly fine until yesterday i noticed he was on his side and then i noticed how huge his stomach is. today he is still on his side and his stomach looks like its about to explode. also it looks like he has a hemorrhoid or something trying to get out of his anus but is too big. have you ever had a fish do this and did it live?

I assume he’s not eating now… otherwise I’d say he needs some ruffage. Does he have a good supply of driftwood, algae and other sinking pellets?

the red to me indicates a rather bad bacterial infection which you can treat with “melafix”. It’s safe for most aquarium fish, but I always say dbl check before you put it in your tank. Usually you need to do a weeks course of treatment, but if he’s not fully better at the end of week one, go for another week. and don’t stop the treatment early either. you want to make sure you kill off whatever is ailing him. I would also suggest adjusting your tank temp ever so slowly to make it ideal for your pleco.(as long as your other fish can take it of course) depending on the kind you have he may enjoy slightly cooler water with lots of oxygen. Also, do a water change. make sure your tank water is pristine. This will also help him recover.
